Derailed message series for The Harbor Church
Set Pics
- For the set we designed a train depot as the main background
- That depot was used for primary visual. The main flat surface was used to project lyrics on.
Details
- For an added touch we dressed the drum platform with a cow-catcher and a steam pipe with a fogger in it behind the drum throne. Finally, we put the entire drum set on rails. The drums were moved forward while playing worship and back in the "depot" when the message portion of the service was active.
Night of Worship Gateway Community Church
Main Setup
- This was a largely Video and Lighting Design for a
Community
Night of Worship at Gateway Community Church in Clear Lake Texas.
All Angles
- The church added the opaque orbs and we re-assigned the dimmers to give a greater deal of control.
- In addition we dropped soft-goods for the backlights to illuminate for color depth.
- Finally we re-positioned all Front-lighting and added 16 LED fixtures to the front wash for color depth as well in the catwalks.
House of Lies series for The Harbor Church
Main Setup
- This was a full audio, video, lighting and stage design for a message series.
- For the set design we built a life-sized "House of Cards." We placed backyard string lights along 12' sticks of all-thread and zip-tied them. Likewise we built and hung an additional life-sized card and projected the content for that card and lyrics as well.
House of Lies
- There were so many elements to this set to create visual elements but also little touches like handing out cards each week with the House of "Lies" logo on each card and the weeks scripture on the other side. The cards matched the cards on the stage.
Details
- In addition to the normal stage setup, we created an interview stage and did the message or portion of the message in interview format for the series. The stands were custom built to match the series look out of wood bases with all-thread and a sheet of lexan clear plexiglass for the. stand surface so it wouldn't block the folks being interviewed.
Christmas Eve services In the Round
Main Setup
- This was a full audio, video, lighting and stage design.
- For set/stage design we spent a significant time moving a stage to the middle of the venues worship center.
- We stripped the existing thrust stage to make room for more seating.
All Angles
- We added four small arrays at the corners of the center stage and moved FOH mix position from it's normal spot to the Upstage Left corner of the room. This required some significant wiring for inputs, outputs, IEMS, Control etc.
- We added lighting all the way around the stage.
Candlelight
- We moved the cameras to be at the four corners and two shoulder mounts at the stage for worship in addition to two PTZ's.
- In addition to the two screens up front in the corners we added two in the back corners as well and finally added a tv on two sides of the stage for competence monitor.
Toxic message series for The Harbor Church
Main Setup
- This was a full audio, video, lighting and stage design for a message series. In addition we built a "tubulum" instrument much like that seen played by the Blue Man Group.
- First as we talked about the idea of a series called, "TOXIC." I couldn't get out of my head a cross between a stomp feel with trashcans and Tubes like the BlueMan Group.
Set Build Items
- So We built a two octave Tubulum and painted it to have a sort of SteamPunk look.
- Then we erected a two-level scaffold and used a lift to place the tubed instrument on it. To complete the look around the stage we added four trashcans painted with the toxic logo and two other sets of plastic and metal drums for use in the "stomp" type setup.
- Finally for the instruments we added trash can lids of differing sizes bronzed for the look on a rack all around the drummer.
- Set-wise other than the drums we added a full set of chain-link fence hanging on the background after painting black.
- Then we added chain link along the columns throughout the audience.
- Also we added cargo style lights with a red filter to give a warning system feel to each column and over the forward doors and finally under the base of the second level of the scaffold.
- one of the best touches to the set was two large cauldrons, one on each side of the scaffold/tubulum. In the cauldrons we placed a fire fueled by gel canisters to complete the look.
- We of course also purchased some yellow suits (actually paint) and put toxic logo decals on them while adding the old-school style toxic masks for the drummers and opened up with a special.
Disciplined Setups
- AUDIO - Micing the tubulum was a quite a feat. It took 5 mics with a mixture of sm81's and large diaphram microphones to pickup each unique range of the instrument.
- LIGHTING: In addition to a regular complement of lighting repurposed we added a background along the chainlink fence a set of LED balls that could be used in a matrix with shapes etc driven by Madrix.
